Nickel metal hydride battery packs: the reliable rechargeable standard

Nickel metal hydride packs remain the right choice for toys, home devices, tools and legacy equipment built around NiMH voltages. Start here for replacements and custom NiMH assemblies.

Range facts. NiMH anchor: 15 Ni-MH battery models plus Ni-MH cell and pack sub-groups in the range index. Detail page: 7.2V 1100mAh pack for toys and home devices.

NiMH chemistry is older than lithium, and its advantages are practical rather than spectacular. NiMH cells tolerate simple charging, operate over a wide temperature range, and are available in the familiar cylindrical sizes that decades of devices were built around. A 7.2V NiMH pack — six 1.2V cells in series — is a standard building block for toys, home devices and small tools, and the detail pack on this site is exactly that: 7.2V, 1100mAh, 70 x 46 x 18 mm, 0.13 kg, heat-shrink PVC, with nickel tabs extending outside the battery so the customer can weld the tabs directly to the device.

That detail pack also illustrates how NiMH listings differ from lithium listings. Its charging current is listed as up to 0.5C, its maximum continuous discharge current is listed as 1100mAh, its cycle life is 500 cycles at 100% depth of discharge, and its PVC colour can be customised to black, white, green, red and other colours. Those are that listing's values. Other NiMH listings differ in cell size, voltage, capacity and terms, and the colour options of one listing do not transfer to another.

NiMH is also the chemistry of replacement. A large installed base of toys, home devices, medical accessories and tools still runs on NiMH, and their owners need packs in the original voltage and outline rather than a lithium conversion that would change the charging and protection requirements. For those buyers, the honest question is whether the original pack's voltage, capacity and connector match, not whether a newer chemistry exists. Where a lithium conversion is genuinely wanted, it is a redesign — new charger, new protection, new approvals — and it should be discussed as a redesign, not ordered as a drop-in replacement.

For a NiMH inquiry, state the cell size or the pack dimensions, the voltage, the capacity and the termination — tabs, wires or connector — because a NiMH pack without the right termination still needs rework on arrival. The NiMH guide on this site covers voltage choices from 4.8V to 12V in general terms; the model listings supply the exact figures for a real order.

How to choose in this family

Fix the chemistry first, then the voltage and series count, then the capacity. Check the exact model listing for its own dimensions, protection, certificate set, minimum order and lead time — those values belong to that listing and do not transfer to other models. If no listed size fits your enclosure, the custom route covers custom dimensions and configurations; describe the enclosure and the electrical requirements rather than asking for a general price.

How to place an inquiry, step by step

  1. Send the device facts. Tell us the device type, the available space (length, width and maximum thickness), the nominal voltage you need, the capacity or runtime you target, and the peak current if your device has motors, radios or heaters.
  2. Name the model or the chemistry. If a page on this site matches, quote its model description and listing details. If nothing matches, say so and describe the chemistry and voltage you need, so the conversation starts on the custom route.
  3. Confirm documents and terms in writing. Ask for the certificate set for that exact model, confirm the minimum order, the price basis and the lead time for that listing, and confirm payment and warranty terms before you pay. Terms stated for one model listing do not transfer to another model.
  4. Agree the sample step. Confirm whether the next step is a listed sample, an engineering sample for a custom design, or a small trial order, and what test you will run on arrival — fit in the enclosure, runtime, or peak-current behaviour.

Send all of this in one message through the contact page: device type, space, voltage, capacity, peak current, model description if you have one, and the documents you need. That is the whole inquiry — no separate form, no account, no extra step.

What to send us now

Send one message with your device type, the space the pack must fit, the voltage and capacity you need, the peak current if it matters, and the model description if a page on this site already matches. Add the documents you need — certificates are available upon request — and whether you need a listed model or a custom design. Use the contact page or write to [email protected], or call +86-755-25629920. A specific message like that is what turns a range of hundreds of models into a short, answerable question.
